Once in a while a car comes along that breaks the narrative of being sleek and classy. This is A 2005 BMW 645ci. It is an absolutely beautiful car. My client contacted me through our Opti-Coat registration website. He was looking to have a ceramic coating installed on his 2005 BMW 645ci to protect the paint. I told him with a car this old our warranty service does not cover the paint when it is past five years old. However, we can still coat the car and provide a ceramic coating protection to the paint. The paint underneath would not be warranted from cracking or checking which looks like tic-tac-toe lines underneath the paint. He told me he didn’t care about the warranty as much as he wanted to have the paint protected. I told him that was fine and we offered several different services.
2005 BMW 645ci Ceramic Coating Options:
The main purpose of a ceramic coating is protect the substrate from external abrasion. Meaning protection from environmental elements. This includes protecting your vehicles paint, wheels, tires, fabric, leather, and trim. We covered pretty much every exterior coating Optimum Polymer Technologies offers. Some of those options include Opti-Coat Paint Guard, Opti-Coat Pro and Pro Plus ceramic coatings , Opti-Coat Hyper Seal, Opti-Coat Wheel Coating, Opti-Coat Tire Coating. We also discussed our window coating Opti-GlassPro. It is a fantastic proverbial shield for your windows. With our specific window cleaner and maintenance we can make the window coating last indefinitely. I also mentioned coating the outside surface of the wheels which will reduce brake dust sediment on the wheels themselves.
Advantages of Opti-Coat Pro for this 2005 BMW 645ci
I told him the great thing about Opti-Coat Pro is it’s advanced ceramic technology. Therefore, it is the absolute best of the best. Opti- Coat was designed and tested in Saudi Arabia, which is one of the harshest environments in the entire world. He could actually put his 2005 BMW 645ci in a sand storm and it wouldn’t affect it. Therefore, when you put a car coated with Opti-Coat in a sand storm and the storm doesn’t affect the coating, it will be a solid and very durable coating for even a daily driver vehicle here in the United States.
Assessing the damage
The biggest problem that this 2005 BMW 645ci had is the beginning of the paint starting to fracture on the rear deck lid. You can see this in the before pictures at the start of the gallery. This more than likely occurred from an individual attempting to polish out the micro marring and in essence making the paint worse. This usually is from someone using a rotary buffing machine on the paint that does not know how to use one.
How to fix the problems on this 2005 BMW 645ci
I spoke with my client about all of the ceramic coating options offered by Opti-Coat. I said that while part of the ceramic coating service includes a light polish, anything that is needed beyond that would be an extra charge.
BMW paint is very difficult to bring back to the original clarity and luster. The way to do that is to be very methodical and take your time polishing. This is so we have a surface that is free of defects. The paint can’t be allowed to get hot. It will cause “checking” or “fracturing” which will look like straight line scratches forming crosses (tic tac toe effect, see the before pictures in the gallery).
On this 2005 BMW 645ci, he decided to go with Opti-Coat Pro.
Services Performed on this 2005 BMW 645ci
The normal installation of Opti-Coat to any paint surface is to first be prepped and polished. This will remove any possible scratches, scuff marks, and contamination that was on the paint prior to applying Opti-Coat Pro.
Proper polishing to eliminate heat on any paint surface is essential for installing Ceramic Coatings.
Heat is your enemy when polishing paint. The absolute last thing you want is for the paint to get hot. It will cause fracturing or “checking.” When that happens your paint will begin to peel.
Honestly, this should be the same type service that any ceramic coating company should perform before applying their coating. Unfortunately, it is not. Most installers will do the minimum they need to in order to get the car out the door and be paid. That is not our objective. I told my client that he will need to be satisfied and happy with the service performed on his 2005 BMW 645ci. Once he was happy with it then payment is taken.
I think the results speak for themselves.
