What are vehicle coatings?
Something that is a very new concept and application are vehicle coatings. They are the latest in technologies for the protection of all of your vehicle’s many surfaces. Vehicle Coatings provide a barrier between your vehicle’s original surface and the coating itself. The hard wearing and very durable vehicle coatings are tested and proven over multiple years of research and study.
Exterior Paint Coatings can range from 2 years of protection to 7 years of protection. Now what does that mean to you? Well, there are a multitude of benefits to have a coating installed on your vehicle’s surface.
If you are maintenance challenged, meaning you don’t like to wash your vehicle, coatings are perfect choice. You don’t have to wash your vehicle as often because dirt just doesn’t stick to it like it used to. The surface is super slick.
What is the right kind of company?
How do I choose the right coating company? That is the million dollar question. Today it seems like there is another coating company popping up every 10 minutes. Well, in reality, when you look at the chemical structure of each coating a company may offer, most of them are pretty much the same.
One of the buzzwords that are being thrown around is ceramic. Just to set things straight, the word ceramic means “without carbohydrates.” So yes, coatings are in fact ceramic. So is the surface of your vehicle, your coffee table in your house, your TV screen, windows etc.
Two types of vehicle coatings
There are two main types of vehicle coatings. Most vehicle coatings are a base of silica dioxide which is essentially liquid quartz. The other is a base of silicon carbide which is essentially industrial diamond in pure form. When it is incorporated into a resin backbone, clear hard films can be made. Now what does that mean to you ? Well, both offer exceptional results when compared to waxes and sealants. The difference is, silicon dioxide -Sio2- must have a booster applied once a year. Silicon Carbide-SiC- does not have to be boosted. Silicon Carbide actually will cross link with the molecular structure in of the paint. It becomes one with the paint.
